GENRE  Science Fiction

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Science Fiction with (gasp) sex!
Alan Maitland is a successful businessman on his way up the corporate ladder. Life is good, but life is also full of the unexpected. A scientific experiment goes awry, and Alan’s mind is transferred to the body of Hana Toussaint, a high-class escort. Suddenly, he must not only contend with a new identity, but with the eye-opening experience of living as a female: how to walk in high heels without falling; how to put on a bra without dislocating a shoulder; how to deal with makeup without poking out an eye; and how to get along in a society which in many ways is still male-dominated.
When Alan discovers that Hana has taken over his body, the two of them must work together to find the scientist who can reverse the experiment and give them back their respective lives. Along the way, they must cope with living as each other and learn what it's like to be a member of the opposite sex. And as their adventure goes on, Alan the woman must figure out his growing feelings for Hana the man.
Alan faces the biggest challenge of his life which Hana sums up with one decisive question:
“Are you man enough to be a woman?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT:

Alan stepped out of the hotel onto the still-busy street. The night air cooled his flushed skin. He took a deep breath and looked around. It was in a nondescript city neighborhood made up of multi-story buildings with commercial fronts. He didn’t recognize anything. Where am I?

He checked Hana’s phone for GPS or a map, but the display showed Enter your password. He had to find somebody to give him directions.

Spotting the illuminated sign of a convenience store, he headed down the street. In the light of the store window, he fished out the wallet and scanned the driver’s license again.

A man walked by, and Alan called out, “Hey, buddy!”

The man continued until he looked at him and stopped. “Hey, baby. What are you doing out so late? As if I need to ask.”

“Do you know where Charlton Street is?”

“If you invite me over, I may be able to help you.” The man grinned.

Alan frowned. What the hell had gotten into this guy? “Charlton Street. Tell me where Charlton Street is.”

The man ambled over and stood close. “Come on, sugar. How about being nice to a guy?” He reeked of alcohol.

“Oh, Christ,” Alan said. He stomped into the store. Behind the counter, a teenage boy flipped through a magazine. “Do you know where Charlton Street is?” Alan asked.

The boy raised his head and stared mesmerized. Alan snapped his fingers in front of the boy’s eyes. “Hey, you there. Where’s Charlton Street?”

The boy stammered, “This is Varick. Go out the door, turn right, and go down five blocks.” He stretched out his arm to point.

“Where’s East Seventy-Eighth Street?”

“That’s the Upper East Side. It’s miles from here.”

“Thanks.”

Alan started for the door, then stopped and gaped at the hand he had used to snap at the boy. He curled his fingers, then splayed them, looking at the long fingernails lacquered in bright red with little blue stars by the cuticles. He assumed the nails were fake, but he couldn’t tell. Then a surprising thought came to him: They were his fingernails.

He glanced up and saw a security mirror over the door. The teenage boy leaned over the counter to stare at his backside. He looked down. The skirt he wore was short, so he showed a lot of leg. No wonder the boy was checking him out. Checking him out? If he knew the truth, he would run for the hills. This was pushing cross-dressing to the limit.

Nobody famous; nobody rich; just some guy who likes to periodically add his two cents worth with the hope, accounting for inflation, that $0.02 is not over evaluating his contribution. He claims that at the heart of the writing process is some sort of (psychotic) urge to put it down on paper and likes to recite the following, which so far he hasn't been able to attribute to anyone: "A writer is an egomaniac with low self-esteem." Rogue's Angels Present: Fear Justice by C. C. Bolick

Please welcome C.C. Block author of Fear Justice

One randomly chosen winner via rafflecopter will win a $50 Amazon/BN.com gift card.

Fear Justice
by C.C. Bolick

GENRE: YA Urban Fantasy

INTERVIEW

Do you have any tattoos? Where? When did you get it/them? Where are they on your body? No tattoos. I’d actually love to have several but my love for ink has never outweighed my fear of needles.
Is your life anything like it was two years ago? I published my first book in 2016. Since then, I’ve spent days working to pay the bills and nights writing to feed my obsession with finishing the series of stories.  Just when I think C.C. Bolick’s world is complete, I dream up another character with a story that must be told.
How long have you been writing? Since January of 2009. I’d always dreamed about writing a book, but that’s when I bought my first laptop and spent the next few months drafting a novel.
What advice would you give a new writer just starting out? If writing a book is a race and writing a series is a marathon, then a writing career deserves a lifetime commitment of blood, sweat, and tears. In other words, if you want this bad enough, never stop until you see your definition of the finish line.
Tell us something about your newest release that is NOT in the blurb.
The main character of Fear Justice - Rena Mason - is fearless. Literally. She’s willing to take on any bully and stand up for what she believes is right, even when it means sacrificing her chance at a scholarship and dreams of becoming an engineer.
Rena is also fiercely loyal to her small circle of family and friends. Even though her dad seemed to check out after her mom died, she still forgives him. It’s only fitting that she meets a guy who will stop at nothing to save the people he cares about.

BLURB:

Seventeen-year-old Rena Mason counts the days until she can leave for college. Every night her father drinks himself to sleep, leaving her to care for her younger brother. When her father is kidnapped by terrorists, her dreams of freedom become a nightmare.

Stunned that her father has a history with these terrorists, Rena knows she must run or be their next victim. She learns the tough guy at school has a reason to look after her - he's working for a government agency with the same goal as the terrorists: find a woman who disappeared eighteen years ago. Time is running out since only this woman's special gift can save the world from a looming nuclear attack.

Rena can't trust anyone, especially not the stone-cold agent she's falling for. Can they save the world before Rena's feelings trap her in an agent's fight for justice?

Fear Justice contains elements of fantasy, sci-fi, and paranormal, with a clean romance. It's the first book in an exciting new series called The Fear Chronicles.

EXCERPT:

He smiled and held out a hand. “I’m Tony and no, I’ve never thought of myself as a nice guy.”

Staring at his outstretched hand, I hesitated. “Rena.”

Tony moved his hand closer and his eyes took on a look of intensity, as if daring me to shake his hand.

“What’s with the gloves?” I asked.

“Skin allergies. What’s with the hesitation?”

“Hesitation?” With defiance, I reached forward. “I’m not afraid of you.”

“What are you afraid of?”

As his hand gripped mine, my breathing sped and I fought to control my voice. Our skin wasn’t even touching. Hiding my feelings with Robbie had been easy, but this was… weird. “Why are you worried about who I date? You don’t even know me.”

“I know your name is Rena Mason. We’ve got physics together.”

A twinge of guilt caught me off-guard. “I haven’t noticed you before.”

“My dad taught me to blend in with my surroundings, like camouflage.”

“He was a hunter?”

“Not exactly, but he did teach me how to shoot before he left.”

“Left?” The instant his words were out, I felt a connection to him. It was a sadness that welled from deep inside, the knowledge that we were alike in a terrible way.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

C.C. Bolick grew up in south Alabama, where she’s happy to still reside. She’s an engineer by day and a writer by night—too bad she could never do one without the other.

Camping, fishing… she loves the outdoors and the warm Alabama weather. For years she thought up stories to write and finally started putting them on paper back in 2006. If you hear her talking with no one to answer, don’t think she’s crazy. Since talking through her stories works best, a library is her worst place to write… even though it’s her favorite!

C.C. loves to mix sci-fi and paranormal—throw in a little romance and adventure and you’ve got her kind of story. She’s written nine books including the Leftover Girl series, The Agency series, and The Fear Chronicles.

The Book is on sale for $0.99 during the tour.

Rogue's Angels Present: The Sweetest Poison by Jane Renshaw

Please welcome Jane Renshaw author of The Sweetest Poison

Jane Renshaw will be awarding a $20 Amazon/BN GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.

The Sweetest Poison
by Jane Renshaw

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Mystery
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
INTERVIEW:

1. What or who inspired you to start writing?

As children, my sister and I used to create elaborate Lego worlds populated by tiny plastic animals and people. We would spend hours immersed in those worlds, making up stories for our characters. The time the Dragon brothers set themselves up as evil vets sticks in my mind – they started murdering the animals in their ‘care’ and pretending they were still alive by propping them up in fields with Plasticine! (Yes, I had a sick mind from an early age.) I think it’s an easy step from this kind of imaginative play to creating characters and worlds on paper.

2. What elements are necessary components for this genre?

Ooh, I don’t know! I shouldn’t really admit, that, should I? I suppose a crime of some sort has to happen. As a reader, if I finished a crime novel and found, for example, that the murder wasn’t actually a murder but an unfortunate accident, I think I would feel cheated.

3. How did you come up with your idea for your novel?

I have always wanted to write a story set in the rural north-east of Scotland, as it is an area with a rich history and culture and, of course, a gorgeous landscape. The idea for the plot came from wondering what would happen if a ‘natural victim’ – a girl mercilessly targeted by bullies – decided to fight back... And wondering what the ramifications of her actions would be for everyone involved.

4. What expertise did you bring to your writing?

I am a freelance copy editor, working on scientific and medical journals, so I have a basic grounding in the nuts and bolts of writing. It’s great, though, to be able to throw off the shackles when writing fiction.

As regards the Pitfourie Series, I live in the area I’m writing about and know what makes people here ‘tick’, I think. My Mum, who was brought up here (I wasn’t – we lived near Edinburgh when I was a child), and other relatives have been a great help in providing authenticity too. I suppose that counts as borrowed expertise, but what the hell.

5. As far as your writing goes, what are your future plans?

I am about to publish a standalone crime novel, Risk of Harm, about a forced adoption and the lengths to which two very different women will go to protect a child. It was fun to write as there is a lot of dark humour in it, particularly in the scenes featuring a ‘family from hell’, and there is a massive twist which I’m smugly pleased with!

As far as the Pitfourie Series goes, I aim to have the second book finished by the end of the year. It’s titled Bad Company and involves an undercover policewoman tasked with gathering evidence against a certain character...

6. If you could be one of the characters from this book, who would it be and why?

Great question! I think it would be fun (up to a point) to be Suzanne, the ‘wild child’ who causes Helen, the main character, so much grief. She is just so naughty... And the great thing about fiction is that you can step out of a character’s head whenever you want to and go back to your own nice boring life. I wouldn’t like to be Suzanne in reality, for reasons that will be obvious to readers.

7. Can you give us a sneak peek into this book?

Here are the first three paragraphs:

Helen looked up at the tree. There were plenty of pods hanging down from it, like peapods only skinnier.
How many would she need?
Yesterday when she was helping Daddy with the bales she had asked him, ‘How many laburnum seeds would someone have to eat before they died?’ and he’d shaken his head and said, ‘Hel’nie. You mustn’t evertake seeds from that tree,’ and she’d said, ‘I won’t. But how many wouldsomeone have to eat?’ and he’d shaken his head and said, ‘I don’t know, and I’m not just awful keen to find out.’

8. Do you belong to a critique group? If so how does this help or hinder your writing?

I am extremely lucky to have two wonderful writing friends, Lucy Lawrie and Lesley McLaren. I couldn’t do without their help and encouragement. We ‘met’ online on a writers’ forum and have been critiquing each other’s work ever since. We have also met up in ‘real life’ a few times now. I trust their judgement absolutely and know they will be honest if something isn’t working. They both have impressive (and sometimes scary) imaginations and have often come up with great suggestions I’d never have thought of myself. Lucy, for example, came up with ‘The Sweetest Poison’ as the title of my novel, and I knew at once that it was perfect for this story. (Lucy has written two moving, funny, unputdownable novels, published by Black & White - Tiny Acts of Love and The Last Day I Saw Her - available on Amazon now!)

9. When did you first decide to submit your work? Please tell us what or who encouraged you to take this big step?

I’m not one of those writers who is content to write only for themselves, so I always knew I would submit my work to agents. Yesterday I was flogging The Sweetest Poison at a car boot sale, and the thrill of seeing people walking around carrying my book was amazing! I love to think of readers immersing themselves in the worlds I’ve created. As far as submitting to publishers goes, I have been lucky to work with a great agent, Judith Murray, who encouraged me enormously. Although the book didn’t sell in the end to a big publisher, her help and advice were invaluable.

10. What is the best and worst advice you ever received? (regarding writing or publishing)

I can’t remember where I heard or read this, but the suggestion that you should write for yourself has stayed with me – i.e. write as if no one is watching. Don’t feel self-conscious or try to be clever. Then edit and revise for your readers.

The worst piece of advice... Some of the people on writing forums, usually the ones who are self-deludingly confident about their own work, give out advice like sweeties. That kind of advice, in my experience, is always the worst kind. An example I remember is that you should never submit your work to more than one agent at a time. Fine if you’ve discovered the secret to eternal life...

11. Do you outline your books or just start writing?

I always outline them – I would be hopelessly lost if I didn’t, and waste a lot of time writing scenes I later discarded.

12. How do you maintain your creativity?

I’m always on the look-out for ‘material’! Friend experiencing a holiday from hell? Getting divorced? Going to prison? Great – lots of lovely material coming my way! (I’m only half joking. But OK, that last one has never happened... although I live in hope...)

13. Who is your favorite character in the book. Can you tell us why?

I suppose I have to admit that my favourite character is Hector – because I am, of course, in love with him! How can I expect my readers to fall for him if I haven’t myself?! I love characters who are charismatic and witty and a liiittttttle bit dangerous, and are something of a mystery in themselves. That’s what I hope Hector is.

14. Are your plotting bunnies, angels or demons?

Oh, definitely angels – I am all for the lazy approach of letting my subconscious do the work and then hit me with it. I’ve had lots of ideas pop up seemingly out of nowhere which have turned out to work well, I think – in The Sweetest Poison, the idea for the character of Moir was courtesy of a bunny. That being said, angels can be demons in disguise... although I’m sure that doesn’t apply to Rogue’s Angels!

BLURB:

When life has cast you in the role of victim, how do you find the strength to fight back?

When she was eight years old, Helen Clack was bullied so mercilessly that she was driven to a desperate act. Now she is being targeted once more, but this time her tormentor’s identity is shrouded in doubt.

When her life starts to disintegrate, she flees home to the wilds of north-east Scotland, and to the one man she knows can help her – Hector Forbes, the dubiously charismatic Laird of Pitfourie, with whom she has been hopelessly in love ever since those hellish days in the school playground, when he was her protector, her rescuer, her eleven-year-old hero.

But is Hector really someone she can trust?

And can anyone protect her from the terrible secret she’s keeping?

EXCERPT:

How many would she need?

Yesterday when she was helping Daddy with the bales she had asked him, ‘How many laburnum seeds would someone have to eat before they died?’ and he’d shaken his head and said, ‘Hel’nie. But how many would someone have to eat?’ and he’d shaken his head and said, ‘I don’t know, and I’m not just awful keen to find out.’

Helen wriggled her schoolbag off her back and dropped it down on the grass.

No one would see. The byre was between the tree and the kitchen window, and Daddy had gone up the fields to look at the calfies.

To reach the pods she would have to climb up on the fence, but Suzanne had shown her how to climb on barbed wire. She put one hand on the fence post under the tree, and one hand on the top wire, and climbed with her bum sticking out to keep her legs away from the jags. The wires were wobbly but she didn’t fall off. When she was high enough she let go the hand on the fence post and reached up and grabbed one of the pods.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Having discovered early in her 'career' that she didn't have what it takes to be a scientist, Jane Renshaw shuffled sideways into scientific and medical editing, which has the big advantage that she can do it while watching Bargain Hunt! Jane writes what she loves to read –  series of novels in which the reader can immerse herself, which let her get to know an engaging, interesting and/or terrifying cast of characters slowly, in the same way you get to know people in real life. Ideally, the drama should be played out in a gorgeous setting, and the cast should include at least one dangerously charismatic, witty, outrageous protagonist with whom the reader can fall in love. A bit of murder and mayhem in the mix never hurts either... Hence the Pitfourie Series.

Title: Tira’s Education
            Twelve Dancing Princesses Book Eleven
Author: Christine Young
Genre: Historical Romance/Regency
Book Heat Level: 4

TAGLINE

While pursuing her dream of learning how to build ships, Tira never bargained on finding an irrevocable love and a passion for a man who could not fulfill her dreams.

BLURB: Tira's Education

WHISPERS OF EDUCATION

Learning how to build ships is Tira Hepburn's only dream until she meets Jamie Lundin and her world is turned upside down. With her raven black hair and vivid green eyes, she tempts Jamie and pushes him to defy his vows. She never bargains on finding an irrevocable love and a passion to a man who cannot fulfill her dreams despite his burning desire for her.

WHISPERS OF A BARGAIN

Arrogant and self-assured Jamie is brought up short when Tira captures his heart. All his carefully made plans are put to the test when he decides to teach her the art of ship building if she will spend a week with him alone on his ship. He is unable to deny Tira's intoxicating effect on him. When Tira leaves him behind unwilling to live with him without the benefit of marriage, he races after her. Jamie will risk everything to shelter and protect the innocent debutante who seduces him with her sweet love.

EXCERPT: Tira's Education

“What the devil,” Jamie mumbled after the incessant knocking woke him up from a deep sleep. “The town must be on fire...the docks, the ships.” His heart racing, he slipped on his buckskins and running his hands through his hair then racing down the stairs, opened the front door.
            Tira Hepburn, what the bloody eyes was she doing at his front door at five in the morning and what was she doing aping a man? For that matter, what was she doing in Baltimore? Tira must have been the reason her cousin Aidan was inquiring about the ships coming in from London. “Can I help you?” he asked out of politeness but wishing he still lay in bed sleeping.
            “I’m here to apply for the job.”
            “What job?” Sleepily, he ran his hands through his hair, unable to take his gaze off the woman on his front porch wearing men’s clothing. Even dressed in that ridiculous outfit she mesmerized him. The only job he knew of was the one for an experienced ship builder.
            “The one building ships.” She smiled, puffing up her chest and settling her hands seductively on her hips.
Obviously, she had no idea how the simple gestures emphasized her femininity.
If he didn’t miss his guess, she sounded indignant, but for some reason he couldn’t fathom, he didn’t want to end the conversation this instant. He had no choice though. His six-year-old daughter was asleep upstairs and needed breakfast before he could continue with this strange encounter. “Come back at eight o’clock. Not here but at the shipyard. I’ll speak with you then and not a moment before.”
            “I went there to begin with but when no one answered my knock, I came to your house. I need this job.” Her voice filled with indignation.
You need this job my ass. “Come back at eight and we can discuss this civilly.” He started to close the door.
            “Promise me you won’t give the job to someone else before the interview.” She smiled at him.
            “Doubt if anyone in town besides you wants the job. The sign has been up for over a month. Besides, there aren’t very many skilled ship builders in town. Are you skilled?” He challenged, hoping she would back down and he wouldn’t have to be at the office at eight.
            “Papa, who is it?”
            “Go back to bed, honey. It’s no one you need to concern yourself with.” Yet he suddenly knew what he wanted Tira Hepburn for. She could be Annie’s nanny. He reminded himself none of the Hepburns could possibly need a job. He was eager to find out more, and the upcoming interview with Miss Tira could be enlightening. Getting to the bottom of this made the day a bit more interesting than he thought it would be. Suddenly, he was eager to start the day and discover what would come of this chance encounter.
            “Papa.” Annie stood beside him, tilting her head slightly and pursing her lips.
            “Who is it?” Tira shifted her position as if she was trying to see beyond his shoulders.
            “She’s no concern of yours,” he told Tira a bit too harshly, his protective nature kicking in. Where Annie was concerned, he would guard her with his life and make sure nothing bad happened to her, ever.
            “I’m sorry,” Tira said weakly. “I didn’t mean...”
            “Of course you didn’t. Come back at eight. I’ll meet you then.” He was surprised at her smile and how that simple gesture affected him, touched his heart in a way he didn’t understand. What on earth was she doing to him?
Awkwardly, she backed away and nearly fell off the porch before she turned and headed away from the shipyard, her hips swaying provocatively as she walked. He felt a crazy urge to run after her and then what? Drag her into his arms and kiss her?
            He remembered her from Drake and Ella’s wedding months ago. She’d been the first woman who found a way beneath his hardened heart since his mistress died in childbirth and left him to raise Annie on his own. Tira Hepburn was not a candidate for his mistress, a wife maybe...
            Lizzy, his mistress, had never wanted to become his wife and after his first marriage, he sure as hell never wanted to be wed again, but he cared for Lizzie and mourned her loss. Before she died, he promised her he would take care of Annie and make sure she would never have to sell her body to make a living.
He was too awake now to go back to bed, so he walked Annie to her bedroom. It seemed she was awake now too.
            “Would you like a big breakfast this morning?” He ruffled his daughter’s hair and delighted in her smile and laughter.
            “Pancakes,” she asked, “and bacon too? Anything but oatmeal.”
            “What ever you want today but don’t get used to this royal treatment. Get dressed and by the time you get down for breakfast, I should have most of it cooked. We can talk then about the rest of the day.” He loved her more than life itself.
            “Who was the lady?” Annie asked.
He chuckled softly. Even his five-year-old daughter knew the person at his door was a woman, not a man. For a quick second the thought of going along with her ruse crossed his mind, but he shrugged it off. Truth was always better than lies, and if he let her work for him, he could risk her life. He wasn’t about to do that. Damian Andrews, her brother-in-law, would have his hide if he hired her. Truth be told, he was more afraid of her sister Amorica.
            Annie stopped at the top of the stairs. “Are you going to get dressed before breakfast? Did you know she was staring at your chest, Papa? Why was she doing that?”
