Excerpt from Rekindled Love by Rosemary Indra

What do you say to the woman you love after she left your for another man? For four years that question plagued Mitch Chambers. Now he watched the woman enter the Forest Ridge Fire Department and knew he needed an answer. With her profile facing him, he observed her before she noticed him.
Abby Denton lowered the hood of her coat to uncover long, flowing blonde hair. A vivid image of her hair caressing her creamy breast while they made love returned full force. Mitch’s gut twisted as the memory replayed in his mind.
Standing behind Abby was a little girl about two years old. With a petite form and long blonde hair, the child was a miniature of her mother. Mitch’s gaze returned to Abby. Her coat concealed her figure until she cradled her stomach and revealed the silhouette of a woman at least eight months pregnant.
His heartbeat accelerated. That could have been his child Abby carried and his daughter at her side if only Abby had kept faith in him and their love.
She leaned closer to her child. The interaction between mother and daughter tore at his heart and reopened his wounded emotions; emotions he’d hoped to keep in check while they worked together. He’d repeatedly told Hank; his friend and Forest Ridges’ Fire Marshall, he could work with Abby. He knew he’d have to struggle with the fact she loved another man. Yet, to see a visible sign of Abby’s love for that man was almost unbearable.
Having handled twenty arson fires in a month, his volunteer fire department was taxed to their limit. They’d agreed Abby, an acclaimed sketch artist, known for his ability to take the scantest details from witnesses and create a likeness, would help them find their arsonist. For his department he had to work with her.
Abby unzipped her coat and revealed something yellow and white she’d hidden inside. When she handed the baby blanket to her daughter, the young girl smiled and clutched the blanket to her chest. Abby slipped her coat from her shoulders, uncovering her slender body and revealing the fact she wasn’t pregnant.
Relief slowed Mitch’s heart rate to a more reasonable beat. He exhaled the breath he’d held and crossed the room.
“Abby.” His voice sounded husky and breathless, lacking the detachment he’d hoped to express.
When she turned his direction, he had the full impact of the image he’d tried, but never succeeded, to erase from his mind. Soft gray eyes studied him with such intensity Mitch was sure she could see into his soul. Despite her scrutiny he couldn’t tear his gaze from her oval face. He’d made the mistake and lowered his gaze to her mouth. Full luscious lips. Her lips had always ignited his passion.
“Mitch.” She gave him a tentative smile.
Always a woman who knew what she wanted, her hesitation surprised him. She wasn’t fully committed to work with him. He could see her indecision in her eyes. He wouldn’t allow their unfinished past to hamper this case.
She extended her hand to him. Her slender fingers felt soft against his calloused hand. Struck by her gentle touch, he felt suspended in the past. Pleasant memories of their time together raced through his mind. He stared at her hand locked in his grasp. She used to greet him with a hug and a passionate kiss instead of an impersonal handshake. He released her grip and forced his thoughts to the present, fighting hard to forget the intimacy

Had problems this week? That's ok. Just sit down this coming week and write. Whatever you do, don't let difficulties from the week before get in your way this week.

Every word is one word closer to the finished product.

So I spent the week editing. I'm now working on Chapter 8 and hope to have it finished by next Thursday.

Playing for keeps

After nine years of striking out in the dating department, Maddie Hamlin is throwing in the towel. But just as this mom resolves to remain single, she meets sweet and sexy pitching phenom Chase Patton at a family dinner. He’s perfect for her and aside from the fact he’s only twenty-two.

Chase knows he should be focusing on his rookie year with the Detroit Rockets, but he can’t stop thinking about Maddie. He doesn’t care that the beautiful school counselor is twelve years older, and he’s already lost his heart to her adorable daughter. When an incredible date leads to an incredible night of passion, he knows he never wants to let her go.

But dating in the media spotlight is a whole new ball game. Maddie quickly discovers that not everyone accepts their unconventional relationship and that finding love may mean losing everything else…

“Lift your left foot there, that’s right, and bring your arm back to here. You feel that?” Chase asked as he held her right arm up, his warm hand moving slowly from her elbow to her wrist. He angled his body and she could feel the feel length of him pressed against her, leaving almost nothing to the imagination. “And then you’re going to bring it through and follow through to here.”

Maddie nodded. Could she feel that? She could feel nothing but that! The breadth and solidness of his chest against her back as he leaned over her made her want to turn and worship its strength. Her butt was snug against his front and she didn’t even want to think about what she could bump into if she moved even the slightest inch. His breath was warm on her neck and his lips were right by her ear making her mouth water. Her skin started to tighten and tingle as the air seemed to clog in her throat, and she could feel her cheeks burning. Her reactions, all of them, were shocking. Had it been that long that any touch from a male was going to set her off? Did it not matter that he was many—way too many—years her junior? Her mind screamed, asking what the hell she was thinking, but her body was happily ignoring the alarms.

New vitality for a new year.

I've had a rough year. I'm sure many of you have too. I've let my struggles get in the way of my passion -- writing. So now I have a clean slate to tally my story on for 2014.

I really want to continue my Dragon series and hope to be able to complete at least two or more of my books. I also have a science fiction novel I'm in the midst of I'll be finishing.

It's my intention to start and complete a 'hero's journey' about a Mage apprentice. He'll start on top of the ground and travel to a world beneath meeting dragon riding faeries. [The dragons are faerie sized.] This may be the beginning of a series or not, I'll have to let my writing muse guide me.

Those are my beginning plans. How about you?

Skeletons in the closet

I'm going to share a -- secret -- with all of you. Writers do what they do because [looks furtively around then whispers] we love it. It's been said before and it will continue to be said; writers write because they can't NOT write.

With this profound statement having been made let me continue to the skeletons in the closet part.

The moment we have the epiphany that we like to write and might be good at it, our goal has been set. We are here to tell the world our stories. Getting published? Every writer's dream and, with all of the internet publishers and self publishing sites, most who have an ounce of talent will be published [plus many who don't have an ounce of talent.]

Make money? Oh, heck, yeah! What's not to like about doing something you love and give up sleep for then getting paid to do it? We all hope to have the dream realized. However... this dream has some mighty big strings attached to it.

Most of the writers I know are amazing, talented, SMART people who happen to write. They range in character from the painfully shy to the most outgoing. But the one thing I know about most of my author friends is they had not planned on having to do their own marketing to sell books. We were raised on the line of malarkey that if you got a contract -- everything would be handled by them.

Yes, well, they took a different bus and left us/me to handle all my marketing. Okay. We're writers after all; we can handle it. We'll get online, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, whatever it takes to get our name out there to rustle up business the old fashioned way; working for it.

NOW comes the skeleton in the closet part. While all hardworking authors are working overtime to stay on top of their blogs and websites and Facebook pages, some entity appears on the scene and decides to STEAL all the hard work of the authors by offering their work for FREE.

Every book published has been edited, proofed (several times), formatted, reviewed and marketed by many people in the publishing houses. Giving away their work is thievery of the highest order.

Unless you are on an Author's webpage and they are running a contest to give away a book, free is not free. If you enjoy reading your favorite author and want to read more of them, don't steal their work and don't allow anyone else to steal their work.

Because the skeletons in the closet will be the amazing authors who've quit writing because of the outrageous thefts allowed to happen.

2014?

What do you mean it's 2014? No, no, no. That just can't be. I've been cruising along getting into the swing of 2013 and you go and kick it up to 2014? Nope. Not having any of it.

Truth be told, 2013 was a very rough year for me and my family. We had to make some big changes to our living situation. Consequently, my writing suffered. Now that things have settled and the decisions have been made I've been able to put between 1500 words to 2000 words on paper for my manuscript. I feel better and my characters are finally happy I've picked up the pace.

I've been sick in bed since the 30th of December through Thursday, January 2. Not an auspicious way to start the new year. However, I'm hoping this one sickness will be it for the year. I have MANY stories I wish to put on paper and being sick doesn't forward that process.

Everyone makes resolutions at the first of the year. Why don't we all just resolve to be the best person we can be?

I feel good about this weeks writing. Another week and my WIP is making good progress. I finished chapter five and I'm almost finished with Chapter Six. Didn't write much this week. Tons and tons of last minute things to do before Christmas.

I posted this last week but on the wrong day. So same picture different accomplishments. I did finish Chapter Six this week and I've one scene left to finish in Chapter Seven. Making progress. Can't wait to get it to my editor.

Happy writing.
