GRATEFUL FOR A NOT-SO-IDEAL THANKSGIVING

Thinking I can't be the only one who had a less-than-ideal Thanksgiving, I've taken it upon myself to speak out for those of us who are grateful the day is over!

There were some wonderful parts of the day. My two adult sons and one grandchild were both at my house and we prepared our usual nontraditional meal of whatever we felt like eating. (Ham, hamburgers, deviled eggs, mashed potatoes out of a pouch, peas, corn, deep fried biscuits, and to-die-for cheesecake from a local market.)

I was grateful we could be together. Grateful we're not much bound by tradition, since neither of my sons really like turkey. And I was definitely grateful for the cheesecake. Yum!

However, one of my dogs has seizures and the worst cluster of them he's ever had hit the day before and on Thanksgiving day. Kind of difficult to celebrate when a baby you love is in crisis. However, he pulled through--big celebration for that--and we are now 55 hours without a seizure, so that's also cause for celebration.

So even not-ideal days can have moments of gratitude. If you celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope your day was a nice one. However, if the day wasn't so great, I hope you can still find parts of it to be grateful for, even if it's only because it makes other days look really good. :)

  1. Sorry about the doggie but he came through and that's good. Our Thanksgiving was bittersweet... my kids all pitched in with assorted wonderful treats and we combined three families for the day. It was so much fun! [I LIKE my inlaws!] That was the sweet part.
The bitter part was talking with my 84 year old father in California and not being able to have him with us. But I'm very grateful he's healthy and full of spit and vinegar still.

  2. Chris, thank you for your kind words. And how heartwarming that your move back to the Pacific Northwest has resulted in wonderful family holidays like this! Bummer that your father couldn't be with you but, as you said, so nice that he's healthy and lively!
