Rouge's Angels and Check In Day: Please stop by and share an excerpt of your WIP

It's Check In Day.

Time to pay the piper! How did you do? How much did you write? Did words explode on your WIP?

This is the Rogue's Angels weekly check-in. Every Thursday we encourage the Angels and visitors to let us know how their writing is going.

How well are you doing?

Had problems this week? That's ok. Just sit down this coming week and write. Whatever you do, don't let difficulties from the week before get in your way this week.

Every word is one word closer to the finished product.

Still working on Sweet Talkin' Sugar. Each day brings me closer to a first draft finish. I wanted to finish this but life stepped in and said I wanted to do other things instead. Going  to try to finish Sweet Talkin' next week. Same goal this week. I'm telling myself to sit down and do it!

Excerpt from Sweet Talkin' Sugar:

“Yeah, you’ve said that before and I don’t like it any better this time than I did the last.” Lyn walked to the window. She still wasn’t sleepy, just exhausted and hungry. The sun was rising over the bay. An urge to run and release tension filled her. Putting her hands on the small of her back she stretched and waited for Deacon to say something.

Deacon joined her by the window, one hand on her shoulder and massaged the kinks. “What would you like to do? Sleep? Eat?”

She shrugged his hand off, not wanting to feel weak even though she enjoyed the small gesture of intimacy. “Run. I want to go for a run in the forest. I want to feel free and without a care if only for a short time.”

“Cat or human form? This is the off season so I think we could find somewhere empty of people to shift.”

“A swim too?” Lyn was hopeful the answer would be yes.

“I think I know the perfect place but I’d like food first.”

“Fine, I could use coffee and a bite of something.” Walking into her bedroom she paused at the dresser then rummaged through the few items she’d bought the day before. “I don’t have a swimsuit.”

Deacon turned and grinned. “Skinny dipping works for me.”

How was your week?

Please feel free to share, seven words, seven sentences or seven paragraphs in the comment section.

  1. Finished my WIP yesterday and now I'm starting on the first round of edits. Like never before, I can't seem to find a suited title for this one. I'll call it here for now "The Dragon's Little Drag Queen".We'll see. It's not edited, you've been warned!

Snowing? No. The sky was falling in the shape of microscopic symmetrical crystalline ice structures. It was beautiful if you weren’t freezing your ass off. Ryuu felt as if he was another of those ice formations , just ambling along with the gusts of wind eerily blowing down the deserted streets. The snow was quickly piling. The bus driver had taken pity on him and gave him his old sweatshirt, probably the only reason Ryuu’s body could still shiver and be cold opposed to already transformed in ice. Frozen seemed to be a theme for this night. The streets were frozen in silence, no human in sight. The poles were frozen over, he was turning into ice and even sound seemed to have stilled all around him. The taxis were not working, if there were any in the quaint little town and his boyfriend of three years was not picking up the phone. Ryuu was screwed in a very unpleasant way. He wasn’t the type to linger on the unpleasantness of life.
He stopped in the middle of the road, snow pilling on his hair and shoulders, making him feel buried alive in the stuff. It continued to pile everywhere, so much that Ryuu could no longer see where the sidewalk ended and the street began. Not that it mattered. He seemed to be the only one crazy enough to be out in this weather. The good part was that the snow was making him feel a bit warmer, he wasn’t shivering so hard anymore. He turned around, looking to see any lights on and maybe get some help. He had heard that people in small town usually were more kind and hoped that someone would take pity on him and not let him froze to death. It all looked the same and now he didn’t knew which part he had came from. There had been a light on near the bus stop. Which way had been the bus stop?
So pretty. The snow was coming down harder and it was even more difficult to see. Ryuu stopped completely and turned his face up, watching the ice falling down on earth, the streetlamps’ glow making them shine like diamonds. He got his tongue out and chased the big ones, remembering when his parents had let him and Rei play in the snow. He had not though about that in a very long time. He did now, and it didn’t hurt as he had gotten used to. Maybe it was because of nature’s magic. Ryuu could feel it was a special night, though his childhood stories about special nights involved a lot of scary Japanese legends. Ryuu had never believed those. Even if spirit did came out to play some nights, they’ll not be as evil and mangled as those stories made them. Magic was too beautiful to be evil. Or maybe Ryuu was just delusional and currently freezing to death in a whiteout.
His eyes blinded by a sudden flash, he froze in place, certain that something was going to happen. It was a special night like that.
He was right. The car speed at him and skidded on a patch of black ice hidden by the snow. Fortunately, the hit was not direct. Ryuu’s eyes blinked unseeing, the noise clamouring in his head too much to make sense. He heard sudden sounds some times, he had learned to live with them and his condition. Only this time they were real and he soon found out when a hard object threw him up in the air to land three feet away from where he was staying frozen as a deer in the middle of the road. Luckily, the snow had piled enough to build snow drifts right around where Ryuu landed after his short and sudden flight.

  3. My WIP I'm currently working on is from my sequel, Than's Revenge. I would love some feedback. :)

Mary awoke with a start. Her heart raced and sweat poured down her face. What happened? Who’s here? Her eyes searched the darkness for a sliver of movement but nothing appeared. Her breath was ragged and she closed her eyes to slow down her breathing. Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out. “It was only a dream,” she whispered aloud, trying unsuccessfully to convince herself.

A low chuckle echoed in her head and her eyes snapped open. Pulling the sheet above her body to cover herself, she scanned the darkness again. In the far corner of her bedroom nearest the window, the darkness moved.

Mary sighed and crossed her arms. In a low voice so as to not awaken her roommate, “Than, what do you want?”

Than snapped his fingers and the room was filled with candlelight. Leaning against the wall, his eyes penetrated hers and she saw his dark aura pulse with desire. Desire for her.

“What are you doing here? You know that Dracula luring crap is so last decade?” Her sarcasm dripped like honey.

“Who do you think gave Bram the idea in the first place?” Than licked his lips.

She dropped her head back and started to laugh. She looked back at Than and saw the love and desire in his eyes. Oh crap... She suddenly became astutely aware of where she was and who he was. She narrowed her eyes.

  4. Thank you. This is from Stolen Hearts Book 1 - Contemporary Romance Suspense

“No worries.” Ruby winked. “I’ll have Paul forget the stalker before the night’s finished.”

“And what about Kade? He saw me.” Her gut told her there was something more to him than what he and Paul told them.

She had seen Paul’s car parked in the street and thought nothing of it. Since Ruby was dating him, she’d already snooped through his files and they knew he was investigating their thefts. When Kade rushed out after Crystal in the rain, she ducked behind the house. Of course, Kade must have assumed she was an intruder. As a thief in the case Paul was trying to solve it would not bode well for her to be caught in her black outfit with Westridge’s Financial Advisor’s data and jewels in their possession. Eventually, once they collected all the records everyone would know the truth, including Kade and Paul. No more sneaking around.

Paul would not be happy when he discovered they were the criminals behind this case. Nor would he appreciate their involvement with George and Gustin: both thieves and convicts. The Uncle’s past as thieves, whatever else they had done but refused to share with the sisters, and the years they spent in prison would not help their case. Even though they weren’t family, the Uncles had taken them in and raised them as their own daughters.

Uncle George and Gustin always had someone watching over them. Tommy, as a young teen, had discovered carbon monoxide filling their house—and they suspected Westridge was behind it.

Maybe Tommy was outside somewhere keeping an eye on them right now. When she was younger, she was comforted by the thought of a big brother type looking after her and her fraternal twin. At this moment, with all their preparation and age, it felt like the Uncles didn’t trust them to do the job they were trained for.

Ruby checked her eyeliner in the mirror, smearing a stray harsh line. “Then you must help Kade focus on something else. I see the way you two ogled each other.” She rummaged through a drawer and slathered on red lipstick. “Either get him off our backs or our Uncles will take care of him for you.”
