Father's Day
June 21, 2015 is the first Father’s Day in 64 years I won’t have my father to call.
It’s been a bittersweet year. My dad was a pistol. A retired Marine who never really left the Corps –mentally-he had been slipping health-wise and showing signs of dementia. It was difficult the last time I saw him. He’d dropped so much weight that when I hugged him I could feel his bones.
On April 4, 2015, he was admitted to a Palmdale California hospital suffering numerous issues. He finally surrendered to his body and slipped away. I’ll miss him and his ‘tenacity of purpose.’ [My husband says I have it in spades… I think he’s telling stories out of school.]
Grab your father and hug him whether he wants you to or not. They are the reason you are here.
Happy Father’s Day to all those Dads still here.
