Excerpt from Rekindled Love

Halloween
Halloween or Harvest Festival? Celebrations have changed over the years.
This is going to date me but one of my favorite Halloweens was when I was little. My brother, sisters and I would trick or treat the families along our gravel country road. The treats we were given wouldn't be acceptable by today's standards. We knew all of our neighbors some were like grandparents to us. One lady didn't have packaged candy like the treats kids are given today. Mrs. B allowed us to pick a piece of candy out of her opened box of Seas Candy. Two elderly sisters lived up the road, they gave out bags of walnuts, apples and chocolates.
Traditions have changed but delighting children with treats is still the same. What is your favorite part of Halloween the trick or the treat?

A loud crash sounded in the adjoining room. Metal and glass shattered on the solid floor. The arsonist's angered voiced sounded by the door.
She stopped her escape attempt and listened for his movements. Silence greeted her from the other room. For a moment, she wondered if he'd left. Then she heard his footsteps as he walked farther into the building.
It appeared the arsonist didn't intend to kill her, or he could have accomplished that by now. Cold and nervous, her body started to shake. "Stay calm. Stay calm," she reminded herself.
With her eyes closed, she envisioned Mitch. She wondered if their bond was strong enough to help him find her.
Another crash then a blood-curdling scream sounded in the other room. Feeling she was alone, Abby worked harder trying to cut the tape from her wrist.
Hearing a noise in the room, she pulled herself up on her knees. She looked through the door's window. Flames flickered and danced as a small fire started to spread. The arsonist hadn't killed her, but smoke from his fire would.
