New Year Resolutions - Please just shoot me!

There it is -- the wish list, resolution list, whatever you want to call it. The title is at the top of the page and you've drawn a really cute chubby cherub with a new year banner across his chest. But the rest of the page is blank and it screams at you to fill it with great, NEW ideas.

Every year you put down quit smoking, diet or going to the gym and you are really resolved -- for the first six weeks. But then the inevitable happens. You're bored and no amount of change up makes a difference. So what do you intend to do this year and MAKE a difference?

I just happen to have a suggestion that might work.

Make a list for your eyes only of those things you LOVE to do that no one knows. [Let's keep this above board and legal.] Until recently, very few people knew that I'm a talented seamstress. I come by it naturally as my grandmother, who taught me along with my mum, made her living as a tailor. I have an enjoyable contralto singing voice. I can play the piano, accordion, flute, saxophone, guitar - regular and electric bass, drums - regular and conga and I'm sure I'm missing several instruments.

There are other things I'm accomplished at like water color painting, however, you need to make the list for yourself. THEN, pick one of those hidden talents you have and set a goal this next year to improve this gift. Maybe you're fluffy because you love food. Well, find a way to make tasty versions of your favorite dishes with half the calories; become Julia Child, only thinner.

Set an outrageous goal and take small steps to accomplish it because you know you can and it makes you happy. When we do those things we love, all the naysaying and self loathing falls away.

Love yourself this year. Make that item #1 on your New Year Resolution list.
