What or who inspired you to start writing?

 

I developed an interest in writing as a child. Reading a lot as a kid inspired me to write very early in life.

 

What elements are necessary components for this genre?

 

Science and technology play big roles in the science fiction genre. There are consequences--both intended and unintended--when it comes to scientific or technological progress. This fact can make the scifi genre not only entertaining, but also speculative. While The Blank Series is character-driven, the advancements within the Blank universe influence the characters’ lives in profound ways.

How did you come up with your idea for your series?

The main character, Aura Swain, entered my mind during a sleepless night. Her strong presence felt like she had a long history. I got curious and continued to develop her and the universe to which she belongs.

 

What would you want your readers to know about you that might not be in your bio?

 

Some of their favorite celebrities might already be Blank fans. They can head over to my Instagram (@zhanna_hamilton) for video reviews from actors, producers and directors about The Blank Series.

As far as your writing goes, what are your future plans?

 

Readers can follow me on Wattpad for the next installment of this scifi series. I will release short story 5 of The Blank Series, “You’re Dead to Me, Cupcake” next.

 

What is the best and worst advice you ever received? (regarding writing or publishing)

 

I had someone question whether I was sure I wanted to write in a male-dominated genre like science fiction. I think more female voices are needed in a genre that inspires scientists, entrepreneurs and other leaders of the future. 

 

Yes, I’m sure.

 

The best advice I ever received about writing was simply: keep going.

 

Who is your favorite character in the series? Can you tell us why?

 

I’m fascinated by Aura Swain, the former human turned military spy bot. I’m drawn to her journey and how she becomes a larger-than-life figure in her world. 

 

Do you outline your series or just start writing?

 

I definitely outline. However, my intuition guides me when I write. I’m happy to diverge from my original plan when it leads to a better story.

How do you maintain your creativity?

 

I lead with intuition and curiosity. If I’m curious about a new topic or hobby, I explore it. By allowing myself to play, learn, be intuitive and stay curious, I expand my awareness. This helps me maintain my creativity.
