Mother’s Day
It’s hard to sit down and write a blog today. The
weather here is beautiful; alright for Oregon it’s downright hot and difficult
to glue myself in my chair.
Today is Mother’s Day a day to acknowledge the women in
our lives. Naturally I thought of my mom first. When she shared her love of
reading with me my life was changed forever. She’d also taught me domestic
necessities of sewing and canning which has been fun to pass on to my
daughters.
I also think of other women who have made a difference
in my life. While growing up our neighbor, Letitia was like a grandmother to
us. Every May Day we would put flowers on her porch and hide after we rang the
doorbell. This beloved tradition I used as the opening scene for my May Day
anthology Love in Bloom.
Grandma Jo shared her love of knitting with me. How I
would love to return to the peacefulness of her porch swing.
Mother's and grandmother's play an important part in my stories. Raised by their grandmother’s Jay Prescott and Lillian
Ross would do anything to help his grandmother in A Wife for Jay Prescott.
Happy Mother’s Day to the women in your life.
