Rogues Angels Present : Cliff Hanger Saturday

Highland Sunrise: Pub date coming December 10.

BLURB:

He Made Her An Offer...

Life has thrown Christel McClellan some experiences that could have devastated a less determined woman. Beautiful, self-assured and fiercely independent, she is trying to forget the loss of her stillborn child. But is the child alive?

She Couldn’t Deny...

Life is carefree for Ryder MacLaren who loves to see what is on the other side of the sunrise. Laird of Clan MacLaren, he is wealthy, handsome and happily unencumbered...until stunning Christel McClellan enters his life. When he hears her story, he believes the child she thought dead has been sold to a wealthy buyer.

EXCERPT:

"I'm happy with you, here at the MacLaren castle."
"Do you mean that?"
Ryder reached for her hands. "I thought you knew that I'm a man who charts his course. If I didn't want you for my wife, I wouldn't have asked." He rubbed gentle circles on the back of her hand. He wanted to pull her into his arms. Hell he wanted all of her, now, before the wedding.
"What you're telling me is the truth? I was frightened, no, terrified. I'm not sure if I can be a good wife to you. I didn't think anyone would want me after..."
"Hush, I don't want to hear anymore talk of Richy Rathen and his misdeeds. He will soon be no problem for us. Last I heard he dropped a cool thousand on a horse. Lost everything he owned that day. I don't think his father plans on giving him any more money."
"You didn't set him up?"
"I don't have to do anything nefarious. Richy is his own worst enemy. I am still concerned however that he might have plans where you are concerned."
"I'm terrified he'll show up at the castle."
"He can't get in. His portrait has been shown to all of the guards."
She closed her eyes and inhaled a long deep breath. "Thank you, now what else do you wish to talk about."
"I received a letter from the Duchess."
"Can I read it?"
"No, I burned it. But the Duchess believes we might have to take matters into our own hands. She thinks we should kidnap your baby."
Her eyes grew wide and it seemed to Ryder that Christel stopped breathing. "All right. You would do that for me and a child who is not your son?"
I would do anything for you. "Yes." Ryder wasn't sure where to go with this. "Blade and I plan on traveling alone. We should be back in three weeks, and in time for the wedding."
"I want to go with you. The sooner I can hold my child, the better I will feel."
"Somehow I knew you would say that. But I don't want you implicated in anyway. And if you went, Aiden would follow."
"Blade swore he wouldn't leave her alone."
"He has no choice. I can't tell anyone and I have his pledge of loyalty."
"I see."
"I hope so." Concerned for Christel, Ryder pulled her into his arms. "Trust me, this is the best solution."
He kissed her, a daytime kiss intended to reassure. But the kiss turned when Christel traced the seam of his lips with her tongue. He opened for her, thinking he'd taught her well. It didn't take much, just a hint of sex and his cock pushed against his pants.
She wrapped her arms around him, winding her fingers through his hair. He pulled back to look into her eyes. What he saw made him catch his breath. She closed the lids of her eyes then opened them seductively. He kissed the tip of her nose then her cheeks, and knew he wanted more.
"I want you." Christel whispered close to his ear.
That was all the encouragement he needed. He trailed kisses down her neck and across her collarbone, lingering near the swell of her breasts. "Are you sure?"

The Angels Present Check In Day

Beverley Beach, Oregon

Look Past The Sunset To The Sunrise

It's Check In Day.

Time to pay the piper! How did you do? How much did you write? Did words explode on your WIP?

This is the Rogue's Angels weekly check-in. Every Thursday we encourage the Angels and visitors to let us know how their writing is going.

How well are you doing?

Had problems this week? That's ok. Just sit down this coming week and write. Whatever you do, don't let difficulties from the week before get in your way this week.

Every word is one word closer to the finished product.

Making progress on Sweet Misbehavin', have galleys for Highland Sunrise and have ideas for Margo's back story. Wrote more pages than I expected since I was away for a few days celebrating my first Thanks Giving at my parent's home.

 Happy writing.

How was your week?

GRATITUDE FOR THE INTANGIBLE

Posted by: Genie Gabriel, aka Amber Angel
www.GenieGabriel.com

Should I confess sometimes all the days run together for me? One of the benefits of being "retired" enough to set my own schedule. Unless I have to be somewhere, I have to stop and think about what day it is. And don't even ask the date--I'll have to search for my calendar.

That's my excuse for being late with this post. But I do realize this is Thanksgiving week, so it's also a great lead-in to my topic of things I'm grateful for. Close to the top of that list is having a flexible schedule I pretty much set for myself.

I'm also grateful for my family--including kids, grandkids, and dogs--and for friends.

But I'm going to make myself dig deeper and think about the intangible things I'm grateful for.
--The freedom to make choices--in what I write, what I believe, how I live my life, and much more.
--The freedom to change my mind! In this rapidly changing Universe, who knows what opportunities are going to come our way or what is going to be obsolete tomorrow?
--Spiritual growth. No, I'm not talking about the topic of religion, which can polarize people. I mean a connection to a higher source, discovering compassion for fellow humans, finding joy in everyday tasks, and much more.
--Reconnecting with nature, even in the midst of the city. I'm fortunate to have trees in my yard, to grow many flowers--even though they are tucked safely in the ground until next spring, and to still be enjoying the harvest of pumpkins and other gourds grown in my backyard this past summer. Am saving seeds for next year!

There are so many more things and beings I'm grateful for. Please share from your own gratitude lists if you would like to. And, from my doggie herd and me, may you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

CLIFF-HANGER SATURDAY--JUST LIKE THE MATINEES OF OLD

from THE BODYGUARD
by Genie Gabriel

Another siren joined the first, then another, racing closer. Mitch glanced in the rearview mirror. Blue and red lights flashed against the darkened sky. The hairs on the back of his neck raised as he pulled over. One, two, three squad cars sped past, rocking the Ferrari with their urgency. Mitch pulled back onto the road, following closely behind them.

In the distance, the weathervane on the Victorian’s turret reached toward the clouds; its angel reflecting blue and red lights as the squad cars screamed by.

Adrenaline sputtered in Mitch’s veins. They didn’t stop. The police weren’t going to the Victorian after all. Yet he still heard a siren. Coming not from the police cars, but from the house. Mitch cut the engine and jumped out. A shout from the house and the sound of running feet kicked his instincts into overdrive again. Where was Julia? Were the twins safe?

Without conscious intent, THE BODYGUARD became a tri-holiday book:
--A scene at Halloween that pushes the heroine, Julia, to realize courage comes in the midst of terror, and galvanizes Mitch to step into his bodyguard persona once again to protect the people he has come to love.
--A scene at Thanksgiving that finds both Julia and Mitch struggling with raw emotions.
--The wrap-up miracle scene at Christmas.

Since it's close to Thanksgiving, I'd like to share part of the Thanksgiving scene from THE BODYGUARD. Amid the major turmoil going on in their lives, Mitch and Julia find simple things that help brighten the day.

***EXCERPT from THE BODYGUARD***

The short drive to Mt. Hood passed mostly in companionable silence. However, once snowflakes started falling, Julia sat up straighter in her seat. “The snow is so beautiful. I could sit for hours and watch the flakes come down.”

“So why don’t you live in snow country?” Mitch glanced at Julia before returning his attention to the packed snow surface of the road.

“More jobs in the valley.”

They lapsed into silence once more. Julia watched the snow deepening along the road as they drove closer to the mountain. Once in the parking area, Mitch helped Julia strap on the skis, patiently sliding along beside her as she adjusted to the awkwardness of having something attached to her feet that was as long as she was tall.

“How long does it take to get used to these?” Julia laughed as her feet tangled together. She would have landed on her fanny in the snow if Mitch hadn’t caught her under the arms.

“We spend most of the winter on skis in Idaho,” Mitch said. “After a while, it feels funny not to be wearing them.”

Other things feel funny too, Julia thought, as Mitch’s nearness stirred a fluttering in her belly. She was a free woman now. She didn’t have the excuse of being legally tied to another man to stop her from pursuing a relationship with Mitch. So why did she hesitate?

“I’ll race you to those trees.” Mitch indicated a stand of tall fir trees pointing like giant green arrows toward the sky. “Do you want a head start?”

“How about if I just tumble forward instead of trying to stay upright?”

Mitch smiled. “Last one there is a mushy snowball.”

Julia took the head start Mitch offered and managed to stay on her skis for most of the journey, only falling three times in the fifty-yard distance to the trees.

As he did with the twins, Mitch adapted his skills to a lower level without making Julia feel like a burden. He grinned at her as they reached the trees, then indicated a point further along the trail.

Before too long, Julia was moving steadily over the gentle swells of snow with enough confidence to enjoy the winter wonderland around them. “It really is beautiful here.”

“Yeah.” Mitch side-stepped out of the way of another skier sliding erratically down the trail.

“Except for out-of-control skiing objects,” Julia joked as the person passed by them and continued on down the trail.

“Let’s take a breather.” Mitch broke a path off to the side of the trail, then slid the backpack off his shoulders. He dug out two chocolate bars and handed one to Julia. “Our Thanksgiving feast.”
