GRATITUDE FOR THE INTANGIBLE

Should I confess sometimes all the days run together for me? One of the benefits of being "retired" enough to set my own schedule. Unless I have to be somewhere, I have to stop and think about what day it is. And don't even ask the date--I'll have to search for my calendar.

That's my excuse for being late with this post. But I do realize this is Thanksgiving week, so it's also a great lead-in to my topic of things I'm grateful for. Close to the top of that list is having a flexible schedule I pretty much set for myself.

I'm also grateful for my family--including kids, grandkids, and dogs--and for friends.

But I'm going to make myself dig deeper and think about the intangible things I'm grateful for.
--The freedom to make choices--in what I write, what I believe, how I live my life, and much more.
--The freedom to change my mind! In this rapidly changing Universe, who knows what opportunities are going to come our way or what is going to be obsolete tomorrow?
--Spiritual growth. No, I'm not talking about the topic of religion, which can polarize people. I mean a connection to a higher source, discovering compassion for fellow humans, finding joy in everyday tasks, and much more.
--Reconnecting with nature, even in the midst of the city. I'm fortunate to have trees in my yard, to grow many flowers--even though they are tucked safely in the ground until next spring, and to still be enjoying the harvest of pumpkins and other gourds grown in my backyard this past summer. Am saving seeds for next year!

There are so many more things and beings I'm grateful for. Please share from your own gratitude lists if you would like to. And, from my doggie herd and me, may you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  1. My family is at the top of my list too. I know this something everyone says.
This has been a rough year for our family but to have a family in good times and bad means a lot to me. As we gather for dinner tonight, the little ones are playing and yelling. I'm so grateful we are all healthy. We are truly blessed. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
