Where have all the good TV programs gone?

While at home this week, I was witness to the 'new' television programs being offered up for viewing. Holy mackerel, what a load of waffle!

More unidentified monsters from the deep or forests or who knows where. I'm sure we all need another program about Sasquatch - Let's go squatching!  Oh and let's not forget what all the ancient alien theorists say...

A writer friend was lamenting the same issue with me at our weekly meeting. He made a very good point. Most of the programs feature one dimensional characters with little or no personality. It seems the writers are more interested in solving the world's problems in thirty minutes [or less] than putting thought into the plot and characters.

Maybe for those of us who write, this is a good thing. We won't be able to use 'my favorite program' as an excuse not to write.

If you were to create a television program, what would the premise be and how would you make your show a success with memorable characters to last for many seasons?

*The Mage by C. L. Kraemer--It's up to Macklin, the Mage, to discover his place in the world. What starts as a journey to find truth becomes a trek full of adventure and discovery with the unexpected side effect of learned wisdom.
