But it's just a bio!

I'm showing off the cover of my newest dragon book. Thank you Dee Dreslough for the beautiful creation entitled "Dragon Bath" and to Genene Valleau for creating a cover worth raving over.

Now to business. Like many of you, I write books to do things on paper I wouldn't normally do in real life. I'm not very aggressive unless boxed into a corner, and I was raised to NEVER boast. So putting together a biography that doesn't come across as totally dorky or over the top brash is not an easy task. I've often wondered if anyone really reads the darn things.

Well, let me tell you -- they do. I recently was employed by a temporary agency to assist a local state department with a backlog of applications. It was literally production data entry. As such, none of the folks working had a desk of their own, but we shared space. In these types of situations, most folks get together and talk. Heck, you're elbow to elbow eight hours a day, why not? The sister of my best friend happened to be working in the same room, and she was very vocal about the fact I'm a multi-published writer. My deskmate asked if I had a card, and I gave her one with my book titles listed.

To keep this from becoming a mini-book, I'll cut to the chase. She passed the information to her mother, who lives in Nevada, and her mother downloaded one of my titles. She called, all excited, and started rattling off all the things I'd noted in my biography such as the fact I ride a Harley and have a boatload of grandchildren and so on.

I didn't remember that particular version of my biography, but it brought to light the point that people really do read them. Next time you figure to dash off something to fill space... make it worthy enough to awe the reader.
