Happy New Year!

Hello all!

Today we embark on a new year; a clean slate for everyone of us. I have decided to open the closets and get rid of the RAGS, or at least give it my best shot.

I won't make promises I won't keep. So let me tell you what RAGS are...

REGRET - I often look backward and rue certain decisions I made in my life. If only I would have done..... you fill in the blank. In a moment of clarity, I realized without those unscheduled turns down dark country roads, my life wouldn't have become the joyfulness I currently experience. Besides, those twists and turns have given me the experience I need to draw from for my novels. [Bonus for me.]

ANGER - Such a useless, wasteful emotion. Anger is just an adult's way of acting out. Children get to throw temper tantrums. Adults just swear and think dark thoughts. Doesn't change the event that caused the anger, just gives us an excuse to do stupid things to 'get even'. Wasteful.

GUILT - Another useless emotion dumped on most of us by our parents and other adults trying to push us to do the things they want. Just like anger, feeling guilty doesn't move the issue forward. All we do is beat ourselves up and feel even worse.
Drop the guilt. When you analyze the issue you're trying to feel guilty for, you usually find there is no reason for the emotion. Out the door!

STRESS - This is another name for guilt and anger combined. Stress will, however, cause physical manifestations that can lead to death. What does stress accomplish? In the long run, failing health and, truth be told, whatever you happen to be stressing over hasn't been affected by your stressing one bit. Get rid of the urge to try and change the unchangeable.

Put them all together and you have RAGS; items that are used to clean up dirt and be thrown into the trash. I'm cleaning out my closet; what about you?

I'll be featuring stories in the next couple months about my faeries and night elves who've, unfortunately, picked up a couple of these human traits. Maybe they can learn to be more fae-like and less human. We'll just have to wait and see.

  2. This is one of those blog posts I should print and keep by my computer--except it would get lost amid all the other paper. Great stuff. Great way to start the New Year.

Thanks for sharing, Sable. (And thanks for another cute picture, Allana.)
