I'm delighted that Allana has been posting doggie pictures. She knows dogs are a big part of my life.
In fact, one of my dogs has a role in A ST. PATRICK'S DAY TALE, an anthology of three linked novellas. Last week, I finished the cover for my novella, "St. Batzy and the Time Machine."
In the story, "St. Batzy" takes an unscheduled ride in Uncle Horace's wayward time machine. The dog on the cover is one of mine, an adventurer who always wants to know what's going on in the neighborhood. And if we had a time machine in our back yard, I can see my Batzy taking it for a tumble through time.
Dogs and other pets also show up in most of my other stories. Perhaps because I don't think life is complete without a furry, finned or feathered critter or two.
I'll leave you with an anecdote about my Ace, who is now frolicking with the angels. He was a beautiful Border Collie mix; black with tan and white markings; and smarter than most people. On our walks around the neighborhood, we saw a lot of other dogs who perhaps weren't as well behaved as Ace. For the most part, he just ignored them. However, one particular little yapper was exceptionally determined to raise a ruckus as he dashed back and forth, bouncing against the wire fence of his front yard. As usual, Ace ignored him. Until we got almost by his house and the little dog gave one last burst of obnoxious barking and jumping. Well, Ace had enough by then, so he stopped, casually lifted his leg…and baptized the little yapper. The little dog stopped barking, backed up a few steps, and shook himself as Ace sauntered off. Never did see that dog out in front of his house again.
Ironically, my Batzy is a lot like that little yapper when other dogs go by--but I don't allow him out in the front yard. :)
Have a short anecdote about a pet you'd like to share? I'd love to hear it!
