Please Welcome: author of Love on Landing

Please welcome author Heather Thurmeier. Heather is on tour with goddessfish. She is here today to talk a little bit about herself and her book Love on Landing.

LOVE ON LANDING (A Meadow Ridge Romance)

When Tali tries to recover from a recent break-up with a trip to Paris for some retail therapy, she discovers shopping isn’t the only way to cure her broken heart. On route, she meets new pilot, Gavin. Tali and Gavin have instant chemistry and friction as their personalities clash at 30,000 feet.

One night in bed isn’t enough to quell the fireworks between Tali and Gavin and when tempers erupt, Tali’s ex-boyfriend is there to pick up the pieces. Too bad she’s finally realized what she really wants in life…and it isn’t her ex or the life her father has planned back home.

Now all Tali wants is the man who loved her enough to tell her what she didn’t want to hear, but can she win his heart back again on the trip home and find Love on Landing?

Love your cover!

Heather will be giving away a $25 Amazon GC to one randomly drawn commenter during the tour, and a $10 Amazon GC to the host whose post receives the most comments (excluding Heather's and the hosts). So...everyone should leave a comment. Just say hi.

Author Interview

1. What or who inspired you to start writing?
I was originally inspired to start writing by reading authors like Nicholas Sparks, Sophie Kinsella and Jane Green. Now I’m inspired by all kinds of people, places and things. The ideas just don’t stop!

2. Would part does the military play in your book.
The military doesn’t play a role in the book. The man in uniform on the cover is actually a private pilot. But he’s still just as delicious as a man in a military uniform. ;)

3. How did you come up with your idea for Love on Landing?
I really wanted the second Meadow Ridge Romance to be Tali’s love story. We’d briefly met her in LOVE AND LATTES and I just knew there was more to her than what we could see on the surface. So I started thinking, what would happen if Tali—beautiful, rich, charismatic Tali—got dumped? What would she do? She’d run off to Paris for some retail therapy, of course! But there needed to be more layers to Tali than that and as I discovered them, the story took shape.

4. What expertise did you bring to your writing?
I’m an expert shopper? LOL. I’m not so sure I have expertise in any area of my writing. I’ve been to Paris once for a week, so I used those memories to help add an authentic flavor to the setting. I hope I did Paris justice!

5. What would you want your readers to know about you that might not be in your bio?
My readers might like to know that I love a good frozen strawberry margarita—hubs makes the best ones, I hate spiders *shudder*, and I love playing games with my friends, family and kids. I love all kinds of games—Chicken Foot (dominoes), Canasta (cards), Yatzee (dice), Epidemic (board) and even video games with my hubs (I’m watching Skyrim as I type this!).

6. As far as your writing goes, what are your future plans?
I’d like to write more Meadow Ridge Romances. The possibilities for characters and storylines are endless and so appealing. I also have a couple of new series started that I’d like to keep going with. One series is a contemporary romance and the other series is a paranormal romance. I’m *very* excited to see how readers like these new books. Hopefully they’ll be available soon!

7. If you could be one of the characters from this book, who would it be and why?
I would be Tali from the end of the book, not the beginning. I really like who she becomes through the course of the book. I would love to have the monetary freedom that she has and I can relate to her creative side. I really loved writing Tali!

8. Can you give us a sneak peak into this book? Sure! Here’s a little excerpt from the book!

“No, I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what the hell just happened.” She put her hand on his arm, stopping him when he tried to walk down the street. His biceps bulged under her fingers and she couldn’t help but squeeze him a little tighter.
Gavin turned to face her. He bent down until his face was level with hers, his mouth hovering so close to hers that she could stick out her tongue and lick him. God she wanted to lick him.
But she wouldn’t. That wouldn’t exactly be appropriate behavior for two friends while walking down the streets of Paris.
“I said it’s nothing. Don’t worry about it.”
Lick him.
She licked her own lips instead, urging her internal voice to shut the hell up. “It is something. You’re lying to me.”
“You’re right, there is something wrong.” He stared at her for a long moment, his mouth so close to touching hers, she could practically taste him already. “You promised me dinner of my choice and I’m starving. Let’s go eat.”
She tried to mutter a response, but her tongue didn’t seem to work anymore for anything other than kissing him. How could he think about eating right now? All she could think about was the heat of his body melting into her, warming her right to her core.
“I’ll take your answer as a yes. This way.” He took her hand in his free one and guided her down the street.

9. Do you belong to a critique group? If so how does this help or hinder your writing?
I belong to a few chapters of RWA. My local chapter offers a critique session at every meeting. It’s been very valuable to share work with them to see how they receive it. I think it’s equally as important to critique other people’s work too. You learn something from mistakes that others make. I also have an awesome critique partner. She is invaluable! We read and critique for each other all the time. I highly recommend finding a trusted critique partner.

10. When did you first decide to submit your work? Please tell us what or who encouraged you to take this big step?
Honestly, no one encouraged me to take the step. That’s not to say that I didn’t have the support of the people around me—my family and friends were 100% supportive from the very start. But my decision to submit my work was my own. From the moment I got the idea for my first book, I decided that I was going to write it, then try my best to get it published.

11. What is the best and worst advice you ever received? (regarding writing or publishing)
The best advice I ever received was to never give up. This business is really hard and can be very discouraging sometimes. But if it’s something you really want, then just don’t give up. Keep learning, keep growing, keep perfecting your craft and eventually you’ll get to your goal. The worst advice I ever got was to not bother with an agent. I still believe that agents are here to help us, not hold us back. And it’s a good thing I ignored that advice because I’m thrilled to have my agent’s support!

12. Do you outline your books or just start writing?
I’m a plotter all the way. I come up with some spark of an idea, either a “what if” situation or an idea for a specific character. Then I start to develop it and put the main points down on an outline. Then I figure out where the story should start and where it should end and I try to fill in at least a few events that will happen along the way.

13. How do you maintain your creativity?
I find my creative juices flow the easiest when I write every day. And yet, I’m terrible at getting writing time each day! I try to write even a little bit as often as I can and the more I do that, the easier the words flow.

14. Who is your favorite character in the book. Can you tell us why?
I already spoke about Tali, so I’m going to say Gavin. He’s dreamy. *happy sigh* He the kind of guy who’s alpha enough to take charge and be a man, but still gentle enough to realize when he’s done something wrong. What’s not to love? And his permanent 5 o’clock shadow is just the cherry on top of the delicious sundae that is Gavin. ;)

15. Are your plotting bunnies angels or demons?
Definitely angles. I love getting hit with a new idea for a setting, character or event. I usually jot it down in as much detail as I can. Then I can go back to that some other time and really start developing it. Not having a new idea to work on is what scares me! The more bunnies, the merrier!

16. Anything else you might want to add?
In my last ditch effort to entice your blog readers to take a chance on one of my books I’ll leave you with this… Each of my stories are filled with laugh out loud moments, uber-hunky heroes, feisty heroines, believable settings, and a happily ever after.

Thanks so much for having me! Happy Reading!

Adorable Doggies

I couldn't resist this photo. I guess he's ready for St. Patty's day. My family is so Irish, I've always celebrated the day. But we have a different take on the green day. And I don't want to start any riots or be accused of keeping the fighting from stopping but there are the protestants in Ireland. I used to wear a little orange ribbon on St. Patty's Day in honor of my Great Grandfather who was in the Orangeman's hall of fame. I don't know why but that is the tale I was told.

Check out A St. Patrick's Day Tale by the Angels. My novella Star Crossed will be a giveaway on St. Patrick's Day. And yes, Star Crossed is a story about to lovers, one catholic and one protestant.

2nd Week of the Angels St.Patricks Day Contest

Short History of St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, the saint's religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over 1,000 years. On St. Patrick's Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink and feast--on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

Growth of St. Patrick's Day Celebrations
Over the next 35 years, Irish patriotism among American immigrants flourished, prompting the rise of so-called "Irish Aid" societies like the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick and the Hibernian Society. Each group would hold annual parades featuring bagpipes (which actually first became popular in the Scottish and British armies) and drums.

In 1848, several New York Irish Aid societies decided to unite their parades to form one official New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade. Today, that parade is the world 's oldest civilian parade and the largest in the United States, with over 150,000 participants. Each year, nearly 3 million people line the 1.5-mile parade route to watch the procession, which takes more than five hours. Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia and Savannah also celebrate the day with parades involving between 10,000 and 20,000 participants each.
Scottish or Irish hmm...

The Chicago River on St. Patrick's Day

As Irish immigrants spread out over the United States, other cities developed their own traditions. One of these is Chicago’s annual dyeing of the Chicago River green.  The practice started in 1962, when city pollution-control workers used dyes to trace illegal sewage discharges and realized that the green dye might provide a unique way to celebrate the holiday. That year, they released 100 pounds of green vegetable dye into the river--enough to keep it green for a week! Today, in order to minimize environmental damage, only 40 pounds of dye are used, and the river turns green for only several hours.

Although Chicago historians claim their city's idea for a river of green was original, some natives of Savannah, Georgia (whose St. Patrick's Day parade, the oldest in the nation, dates back to 1813) believe the idea originated in their town. They point out that, in 1961, a hotel restaurant manager named Tom Woolley convinced city officials to dye Savannah's river green. The experiment didn't exactly work as planned, and the water only took on a slight greenish hue. Savannah never attempted to dye its river again, but Woolley maintains (though others refute the claim) that he personally suggested the idea to Chicago's Mayor Richard J. Daley.

This was the closest I could get to a green river. Well the countryside is green. It's not in Chicago...so what is an imagination for anyway?

St. Patrick's Day looms

Source: google.com via Chris on Pinterest

We're about to enter into the month where spring sneaks in the back door or maybe it will roar in through the front; only time will tell.

We can begin to feel the change in the air and thoughts of picnics and hiking through the woods beckon to us all. Just remember when you're walking through the forest to keep your eyes open for the Wee Folk and respect their homes. They may be small but their magic packs a powerful punch.

Don't forget to get caught up with the little ones in our St. Patrick's Day Anthology. The story of their beginning is told and several wayward Fae from an earlier time slip in through a wormhole from the 18th century. There's a curious dog and a time machine... you'll just have to read the stories to figure out how they all fit together.

Cliff Hanger Saturday Just Like the Matinees of Old

Cliff Hanger Saturday is a place where you can post your favorite "cliff hangers" of all time or just good writing at the end of the scene. (if not your own work, please give credit to the author and the book.) We all know, a scene should not end with anyone going to sleep. YAWN. But sometimes we see this. If the characters go to sleep, so do we.

So share favorites or write one here.

I have been posting excerpts for advertising and Rogue Phoenix Press. If you are writing an excerpt for something make sure that excerpt ends making the reader turn the page and read on. Do we want the reader up all night? Of course we do.

From Highland Song by Christine Young

"I know what you handed over to your companion," Aaron said with a bit of impatience, trying not to give away his purpose before it was necessary.

"I don’t know what you mean," she said softly with a sardonic smile gracing her intriguing mouth.

"You stole something that was mine. I mean to get it back. You need to remember that England rules this land--all of it." He inhaled deeply the soft scent of her that seemed to be hers alone. It seemed to possess all his senses.

Her shoulders stiffened as her gaze raked over him. "I’m Scottish, and loyal to James," she said, her voice wavering. "Henry doesn’t rule me or my kin."
