My impression of Lucy was never one of a drop dead gorgeous woman. To me, Lucy was funny, did crazy things and yes, stupid things. Lucy was caught up in one scheme after another. She was always well meaning but never successful. Perhaps that was a good thing considering all she tried to get away with.
I look at this picture and I see two sides to Lucy. When I look at a book cover, I see only the cover because I haven't read the book yet.
Will it be a disappointment if the book does not live up to its cover?
What if the book is so much better than its cover?
How do you decided to buy a book?
I always look at the cover first. Next I'll read the back cover blurb, then I'll read an excerpt. If all of this intrigues me, I will buy the book
This is an incredible photo of Lucy. As you said, not what you'd expect given her reputation as a zany comedian.
ReplyDeleteHow do I decide to buy a book? Usually it's because I know the author. So all the "normal" marketing doesn't apply. :)
Aside from knowing the author, the cover is indeed the first thing that catches my eye, then the back cover blurb. However, the real deciding factor has become reading an excerpt.
After picking up some books with striking covers and intriguing back cover blurbs only to have the text inside be not so great, reading those first few pages has become critical in my decision to buy or not.
As an author, I try to hit the target on all those things also!
