Spare Time

After sending my manuscript to my publisher I instantly have a lot of time on my hands. A void, a sense of loss. Like losing an old friend. Or a lot of friends as I become close to my characters.
To fill the time I work on neglected sewing projects, bake with my grandson and read a couple of books. The longer I'm away from writing the edger I become. Grumpy and a little short tempered. Alright I have no patience at all (according to my family). Obviously I'm not filling the void well enough. Other aspects of my life do not give me the peace and harmony as my writing does.
Before I eat too many carbs or become too grumpy it's time to start a new book. Especially since the new story and it's characters crowd my thoughts. They are telling me their tale. Hopefully I can transfer them to paper before they disappear.
What do you do when you have extra time on your hands?

  1. LOL, Cinnamon! It's been so long since I had extra time, I don't know what I'd do. Read, maybe? There's always yard work--but I love the dirt therapy. And house cleaning--not much of a fan of that, though I like my house clean. Doggies to play with, a whirlpool tub waiting for someone to add bubbles and soak while reading those aforementioned books. My life is filled with so many things I love, extra time isn't an issue.

But you're so right that not writing can make a very crabby author. Get that next story going quickly!

    1. I, too, find myself at a loss for things to do for about two minutes then reality sets in and I know I have books to edit and more stories to write [downfall of starting a series]. Glad to hear another book is in the creation process.

  2. Glad to hear you're back to your word slinging ways. Hope you knock this one over the fence too. I'm certain once you start, you won't be able to type fast enough. Good luck!
